The Faculty of Education, Western University, is inviting applications for the position of Associate Dean, Teacher Education. Western’s on-site Teacher Education program seeks to educate critically reflective teachers and leaders at a university that consistently offers one of Canada’s best student experiences. The two-year Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) degree has been purposefully designed to address current needs in education and prepare graduates to become educational leaders who are committed to ensuring high quality teaching, learning, and leadership in contexts that speak to both local and global exigencies. Western’s teacher candidates gain real-world experience through a combination of course work, practica, and field placements that will see them spending as much time working in the field as studying on Western’s campus.

We seek an outstanding candidate, with an enduring and passionate commitment to academic excellence and innovation in teaching, research, and service. Reporting to the Dean, the Associate Dean will be responsible for the overall operational functioning and mandate of the Teacher Education program. He/she will work to ensure continued excellence in Western’s Teacher Education program through providing oversight and leadership to program development and assessment; managing external partnerships; recruiting and supporting outstanding instructors and staff; assuming responsibility for assessment processes related to program accreditation; and, demonstrating a compelling commitment to a program that reflects our Faculty’s commitment to equity, social justice, critical reflective practitioner research, and Indigenous-based perspectives in education. It is also important that our Associate Dean demonstrate a critical awareness of the processes of internationalization and globalization and their impact on Teacher Education at the local level.

Our chosen Associate Dean must have a PhD or EdD; held a faculty position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor in a Faculty of Education; and, achieved a high degree of success in the publication and dissemination of research related to teacher education. Experience in budget planning and the efficient deployment of resources; drafting and implementing policies and procedures; conflict resolution; and experience and an understanding of teacher education in the Ontario context are essential. He/she will demonstrate exemplary written and oral communication skills and the ability to work with diverse students, faculty, staff, and institutions. He/she will preferably have demonstrated a high degree of competence as a teacher and senior administrator in a K-12 system. Importantly, we seek an Associate Dean who has a unique ability to foster a positive culture and environment and inspire and engage all members of our Faculty.

The successful candidate will be appointed to a tenured position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, if qualifications and experience warrant. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Associate Dean, Teacher Education, is a five year appointment (with a possibility of renewal) and will commence July 1st, 2018.
