The Department of Education at the University of Saint Joseph invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the level of Associate/Assistant Professor in Early Childhood. The position will begin Fall Semester 2018.

Position Description

The person in this position will serve as a faculty in the Early Childhood/Special Education licensure program and in the Education Department as needed to fulfill the mission of the Department of Education is to prepare highly effective practitioners whose work is grounded in current research, theory, evidence-based practices and teaching in multi-lingual and multicultural environments.

S/he should have expertise in early childhood education and appropriate special education content. The position requires a 12/12 workload with the expectation of teaching, research and service. Collaborating with school districts to support school partnerships, supervise candidates’ interactions with students, and be responsive to the diversity of Connecticut’s children, is foundational to our program.

Required Skills/Qualifications

Required Qualifications include an earned doctorate or ABD in Early Childhood Education or related field, experience in teaching in PK-6 classrooms and teaching undergraduate and/or graduate students. Candidates should possess communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with an increasingly diverse number of students and colleagues.

Preferred Qualifications include an earned doctorate in Early Childhood Education or related field, knowledge and experience working with edTPA, a strong commitment to teaching for social justice, and collaboration with schools. Teaching experience in higher education and/or professional development of childhood educators or other adult learners specific to Early Childhood/Special Education, literacy, and language arts education is also preferred.

The Department of Education is interested in recruiting candidates with established lines of research and a strong commitment to social justice. Candidates from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
