Penn State Harrisburg, School of Behavioral Sciences and Education, invites applications for a Lecturer in Secondary Education – Social Studies. This is a one-year, benefits-eligible faculty appointment beginning August 2017. There is a high likelihood of renewal. An earned doctorate in curriculum and instruction with an emphasis in social studies or a related degree and secondary education teaching experience are required. Special consideration will be given to candidates with a record of research on topics related to social studies or social studies education, a commitment to working with diverse populations, the use of technology in teacher education, and experience with national accreditation. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, coordinating programs in secondary education, current scholarly research, supervising candidates in field experiences, and engage in service. Penn State Harrisburg has an enrollment of 5,045 students and is located in Middletown, PA. The College is easily accessible via interstate and rail routes to Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington DC, and New York. We offer NCATE-accredited teacher education programs in elementary education, with early childhood and middle level options, and the M.Ed. in Teaching and Curriculum and in Literacy Education. We also support secondary education in English, mathematics, and social studies.
