Job Description: This position is an integral part of the Trefny Center team. The position works directly with faculty and staff in analyzing classroom practices, assessing teaching and learning needs at the course, program and institutional levels. The Faculty Developer provides curriculum assessment and guidance to faculty, coaches and supports faculty change, and organizes and leads professional development efforts (online and face-to-face) for faculty and staff. Areas of emphasis include active learning approaches, classroom discourse, flipped classroom pedagogy, and integration of technology into teaching and learning. This requires working closely with Center colleagues, faculty, administrators and staff to design, implement, and evaluate programs that serve the diverse instructional community across Mines. This is a full-time, 12-month, on-campus appointment.


[*] Organize, plan, and lead faculty development opportunities including workshops, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), seminars, forums, and other formats as appropriate and required to engage and support faculty. This includes, but is not limited to the duties below. (40%)
[*] Implement our diverse portfolio of workshops and programs, ranging from short-term just-in-time training to workshops over multiple sessions to our intensive summer program (22 days), as well as online interactive tools, videos and events relevant to faculty development.
[*] Strategize and recommend new programs and services that expand the Center's offerings and respond to identified instructional needs.
[*] Identify written and electronic resources (locally, nationally and internationally) in faculty development, learning sciences, and engineering education and create a database of resources that are readily accessible to faculty and staff. When appropriate, customize to our specific needs.
[*] Meet individually with faculty and staff to analyze classroom practices; assess teaching and learning needs at the course, program and institutional levels; and share evidence-based approaches to course design, instruction, educational technology, and Engineering Learning. (25%)
[*] Support assessment and data collection related to teaching and learning at Mines and the work of the Center. (15%)
[*] Work with the Senior Assessment Associate and the Center Director to assess faculty needs for professional development.
[*] Actively scan on-going programs and events on campus to keep current with emerging expertise, resources, and needs.
[*] Develop and produce reports utilizing data and analysis related to teaching and learning practices at Mines and use this data to make recommendations to advance the Center's efforts
[*] Partner with Mines faculty and Trefny Center colleagues to write research-based papers about innovations in teaching at Mines
[*] Develop and maintain comprehensive knowledge about current research on professional development for STEM faculty and programs that support faculty, learning sciences research, and the educational development literature, as well as what peer universities are offering, to ensure that Mines is at the cutting edge (10%)
[*] Other duties as assigned that contribute to the overall success of the Center and Institution. These will be determined based on the needs of the Center and strengths of the successful candidate

Minimum Qualifications:
[*] Master's degree required (PhD preferred) in a related educational field (e.g., curriculum & instruction, faculty development, instructional design, etc.) or a Master's degree with three or more years experience in a Teaching & Learning Center or in a professional development role.
[*] Proven experience and responsibility in the professional development of educators including faculty development, coaching adult learners, and assessment/documentation of the efforts.
[*] The candidate should be able to assess faculty teaching and student learning opportunities including course design and enactment, and then make decisions about faculty development based on the assessment and evidence-based practices.
[*] Able to design, skillfully deliver, and evaluate professional learning opportunities.
[*] Demonstrated excellence in course design, evidence-based instructional strategies, and assessment of student learning.
[*] The candidate must have demonstrated in his/her professional experience excellent interpersonal, professional, verbal, and exceptional written communication skills. Must have demonstrated to relate not just with faculty, staff and students, but also with external audiences (e.g., media, vendors, guests, Alumni).

Preferred Qualifications:

[*] PhD in a closely related field such as engineering education, science education, curriculum & instruction, educational psychology, or instructional design
[*] Prior experience working in/with a Center for Teaching and Learning on a college campus
[*] Education research background – a solid practitioner of existing research (knows and can reference key research) or contributor to the research base.
[*] Experience and expertise in using varying communication platforms (e.g., verbal, print media, email, web, social media) to engage stakeholders.
[*] Experience pursuing and obtaining grant support for curriculum design, faculty development, or education research.
[*] Demonstrated high-quality, active and innovative, University-level teaching experience, preferably in an engineering or STEM related field.
