POSITION: This 1-year post-doctoral research position is funded to develop and oversee a new Air Force fitness and wellness program. The position is a full-time (100% FTE) research dedicated fellowship for 1 year guaranteed. The position includes setting up fitness and wellness screenings, working with the project team to schedule and oversee interventions, and collecting data on fitness and wellness changes across time to determine the effectiveness of different portions of the wellness program. The project team will include approximately 25 individuals from professors to undergraduate research assistants. The resources of the WRC and School of Kinesiology are available for additional research projects to be designed and completed outside of the funded project time. There will be opportunities for professional development, including training on independent lab operations, writing manuscripts for publication, disseminating results, obtaining funding, and mentoring student researchers (doctoral, masters, and undergraduate).
 
The Auburn University Warrior Research Center (WRC) is a specialized research and technology center with the mission of improving force readiness. AU WRC acts as a catalyst for change, bringing together researchers, Military and tactical personnel, government, and commercial partners with the goal of improving equipment, health, performance and wellness of our Service Members, tactical responders, Veterans and Families.
 
The work of the WRC combines physiology, biomechanics, nutrition, neurophysiology, functional movement, sports medicine, mindfullness, and other areas to improve wellness, fitness, and injury prevention, treatment and rehabilitation methods to improve tactical athlete health and performance. Our work is done with a focus on evidence/science-based practice with the goal of solving real world problems. Professor JoEllen Sefton, Ph.D. is the Director of the Auburn’s WRC. DUTIES/RESPONSIBILLITIES
Responsibilities include planning and conducting fitness and wellness screenings, working with the project team to schedule and oversee interventions, and collecting data fitness and wellness data. Regular travel to a local Air Force Base is required. The postdoctoral fellow will be expected to work with the PI to process, analyze, and publish resulting data. Training on independent lab operations, writing manuscripts for publication, disseminating results, and mentoring student researchers (doctoral, masters, and undergraduate) are also responsibilities of this position.
