Two Tenure-Track Positions in the Department of Education and Youth Studies, Beloit College, Wisconsin

The Department of Education and Youth Studies at Beloit College in Beloit, Wisconsin invites applications for two tenure-track positions in the areas of math education and/or site-based teacher education, at the level of beginning assistant professor or advanced assistant/associate professor. Review of applications begins on January 22, 2018 and continues until the position is filled, with employment commencing in August, 2018. This is an opportunity to take a major role in a vibrant department, with a commitment to social justice pedagogy and innovative curricula, and to develop your own passions for teaching and scholarship. Located in a diverse community close to Madison, Milwaukee, and Chicago, Beloit is a selective undergraduate liberal arts college that attracts students from across the United States and the world. The college emphasizes excellence in teaching, learning beyond the traditional classroom, international perspectives, and collaborative research among students and faculty. It is recognized as one of the Colleges That Change Lives.

Qualifications: We seek candidates with an earned doctoral degree in education or a related field, including those whose doctoral degree will be completed prior to the start date of the appointment. The ideal candidate will have teaching experience in US K-12 schools, a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching, and a strong program of research. We have particular interest in candidates who combine expertise in math education, and/or teacher education (with a commitment to school-based collaborations) with expertise and interest in Latinx education, history and philosophy of education, youth studies, urban education, community-based learning, ESL education, and multicultural/inclusive education. Candidates at the Advanced Assistant or Associate professor-level should bring a strong portfolio of teaching and publications.

Because equity and inclusion are central to our students’ liberal education and vital to the thriving of all members of our residential learning community, Beloit College aspires to be an actively anti-racist institution. We recognize our aspiration as ongoing and institution-wide, involving collective commitment and accountability. We welcome employees who are committed to and will actively contribute to our efforts to celebrate our cultural and intellectual richness and be resolute in advancing inclusion and equity.

In that spirit, we invite applicants to demonstrate in their letter of application how they can contribute to the department’s core mission of social justice education. As we teach both subject specific and more general courses, we strive to build off faculty’s strengths and professional experiences. We encourage applicants to discuss in their letter of application how their previous professional and academic experiences might contribute to or strengthen a department committed to preparing teachers and educators working in the broad field of educational services for the increasingly diverse classroom and society our graduates will encounter.

To apply, candidates should include: a letter of application, curriculum vitae, a one-page summary of your teaching experience and philosophy, three recent letters of recommendation (can be submitted directly from your referees), and other supporting materials you would like for us to consider. Submit materials via email to edys@beloit.edu. If you have questions about the search, you may contact the Chair of the department, Dr. Jingjing Lou, at louj@beloit.edu.
