Brief Description of PSU/School/Dept
Portland State University, with an enrollment of approximately 30,000 students, serves the Portland metropolitan area, which is a vibrant and growing community with a culturally diverse population of 1.5 million people. Position Summary
The Graduate School of Education at Portland State University (PSU) is seeking a 1.0 FTE 9-month, tenure track faculty appointment, at the Assistant or Associate Professor rank in the Department of Special Education, starting September 16, 2018.

The faculty member will teach courses in special education, pursue external funding, manage existing grant projects, and collaborate in program development and leadership. We are particularly interested in someone with experience in inclusive post-secondary education, transition, and inclusive secondary special education.

The successful candidate will:
a) co-direct PSU’s Career & Community Studies certificate program ( ), an inclusive college and employment experience for students with intellectual disabilities
b) co-direct the Think College Inclusion Oregon (TCIO) Project (,
c) teach courses as assigned by the Department Chair;
d) maintain an active research and publication agenda;
e) seek external grants funding in personnel preparation and post-secondary education for students with disabilities; and
f) provide advising, mentorship and support for graduate students.

Primary Activity Instructional Minimum Qualifications
- An earned doctorate in Special Education or a related field.
- Committed to inclusive education, employment, and community living
- Committed to working with culturally, linguistically and socio-economically diverse students and underserved student populations.
- Experience in inclusive secondary special education and transition and/or post-secondary inclusive college experiences for individuals with intellectual and other disabilities.
- Demonstrated ability for teaching effectively at college level.
- Established record of external grant proposal writing.
- Experience in program and grant management.
- Committed to research-based practices and data-based decision making.
- Effective collaborator and strong team member.
- Completion of a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with transition partnerships with Vocational Rehabilitation and school districts to support post-secondary education for students with disabilities.
- Experience mentoring or supervising teacher candidates.
- Demonstrated success in teaching culturally and linguistically diverse students.
- Experience with data management, program evaluation, and assessment systems.
- Background in the use of technology to support student learning (e.g., Assistive Technology including Augmentative and Alternative Communication).
- Experience with e­-learning systems.

Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The starting annual salary rate for this position will be competitive, with an excellent benefits package including 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
