The Department of Interdisciplinary Learning & Teaching in the College of Education and Human Development at The University of Texas at San Antonio, a recognized, Hispanic ServingInstitution, invites applications for the tenure track position of Assistant Professor in Literacy Education beginning Fall 2018 semester.

Responsibilities: Teaching doctoral, masters, and undergraduate courses related to the area of expertise, offered at either the UTSA Downtown Campus, the Main Campus, on public school campuses, online and hybrid; advising graduate students and supervising students in field placements/internships as needed; serving on masters and doctoral committees; conducting an active program of research; and providing service to the department, college, university, community, and professional organizations.

Required Qualifications: (1) Earned doctorate with emphasis in Literacy or field related to literacy by August 15, 2018; (2) minimum of three years of full-time teaching (with teacher certification) in reading/language arts (or a related field) in elementary, middle school or secondary school settings; (3) experience with culturally and linguistically diverse populations; (4) minimum of 18 graduate hours in literacy (Masters and/or Doctoral level); (5) evidence of a research agenda; and (6) evidence of research dissemination.

Preferred Qualifications: (1) Expertise in early childhood or adolescent literacies, new literacies, disciplinary literacies, family literacies, biliteracy, or writing and writing instruction; (2) university teaching experience; (3) collaboration with schools; (4) experience with grant writing, and (5) expertise in quantitative analysis.

Initial Review: Qualified applicants must submit: (1) an original, signed letter of application that indicates the position level for which they are applying and addresses the required and preferred qualifications, (2) copies of transcripts, (3) curriculum vitae, (4) a 1-2 page description of research plans and samples of academic writing, (4) 3 letters of recommendation.
