In January 2017, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted to consolidate Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University. The new, 27,000-student university will be named Georgia Southern University with campuses in Savannah, Statesboro, and Hinesville. Position Description. Reporting to the Chair of the Department of Middle Grades and Secondary Education, the Assistant Professor of Secondary/Middle Grades Language Arts Education will be housed on the Statesboro campus and requires teaching, service, and research responsibilities, as well as a terminal degree. The Assistant Professor of Secondary/Middle Grades Language Arts Education is expected to collaborate with faculty across the College of Education, teach courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels; supervise and assist with field experiences; serve as a member of doctoral committees and chair the theses of Education Specialist candidates; and perform service to the department, college, university, and professional communities. Additional responsibilities include maintaining an active research agenda, including regular publications, professional presentations, and external grant proposals; modeling effective teaching practices; and using instructional technology, including internet course delivery software. The position is a 10-month, tenure-track appointment, and the salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Earned doctorate in secondary and/or middle grades language arts education or a closely related field by August 1, 2018
Minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in language arts coursework
Minimum of three years of full-time experience teaching students in grades 6-12
A focused program of research and scholarship related to secondary/middle grades language arts education or a closely related field
Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution
Demonstrated effectiveness in using technology in instruction, including teaching courses in an online platform
Evidence of innovative and reform-minded approaches to teacher education
Experience working with culturally and linguistically diverse students
Experience teaching English Language Learners in a K-12 setting
Experience in program leadership
Experience in university teaching and supervision of field experiences
Involvement in professional educational organizations at the local, state, or national level
Knowledge of and experience with edTPA
