University of St. Thomas
DEAN OF THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION

The University of St. Thomas (St. Thomas) invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the School of Education. St. Thomas seeks a leader with proven strategic leadership skills, a passion for Catholic intellectual tradition, a strong commitment to shared governance, and the ability to build meaningful collaborations as the institution continually strives for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service.
Beginning in the 2018 academic year, the College of Education, Leadership and Counseling will be dissolved and the School of Education will be formed as a reimagined, free-standing unit. Concentrated in the heart of downtown Minneapolis, the school has a rich history offering preparation for Minnesota’s teachers and education leaders with a spectrum of specialties including K-12 teacher licensure, special education licensure, leadership and administration, and advanced degrees. The new school will include more than 40 programs and licenses, 15 faculty and 170 undergraduate students and 550 graduate students. The new dean will be charged with leading a strategic planning process to establish the new unit’s mission, vision and goals.

Reporting to and working with the Executive Vice President and Provost, and in coordination with a collaborative and high-quality group of Deans from other units, the Dean of the School of Education will serve as the chief academic and administrative officer. In consultation with the faculty, the Dean is responsible for building a new, free standing School of Education with opportunity for growth and lasting impact. The next leader will need to develop and implement a strategic plan that supports the mission and vision of the School of Education and its role within St. Thomas. The new leader will be expected to set a positive tone and build a collaborative culture grounded in the commitment to excellence.

The ideal candidate will be an experienced and collaborative change agent and transformational leader who can build the School of Education. The next Dean should be an inspiring leader who is at forefront of pedagogical strategies and education reform. The successful candidate will have a distinguished record of academic accomplishments and scholarship appropriate for appointment at the rank of Full Professor of Education and a vision for how to meet the challenges and opportunities presented by the changing landscape of educator professional preparation and higher education more broadly.

The Search Committee will begin reviewing candidates immediately and will continue until the position is filled. For priority consideration, please apply before January 15, 2018.

Applications should include: 1) a detailed curriculum vitae, 2) a letter or statement summarizing the applicant’s personal vision and relevant leadership experience, and 3) the applicant’s preferred contact information. To ensure full consideration, inquiries, nominations, and applications should be submitted electronically in confidence to:
