Penn State Harrisburg Behavioral Sciences and Education Faculty Position

Position: Instructor or Assistant Teaching Professor of Education in the School of Behavioral Sciences and Education

About Penn State/The College/The School:

Penn State Harrisburg is a campus of the Pennsylvania State University, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's land-grant institution, serving more than 85,000 students. Penn State Harrisburg, the Capital College, enrolls 4,600 students in residential instruction and an additional 1,000 students in programs delivered online via the University's World Campus. Penn State Harrisburg offers two associates, 35 baccalaureates, 25 Master's, and three doctoral degrees. The college also offers the first two years of study leading to more than 275 baccalaureate majors available throughout Penn State. Additionally, the campus participates in nine online degree offerings (six graduate and three undergraduate) through Penn State World Campus, and offers accelerated undergraduate/graduate programs, joint degrees in collaboration with Penn State Dickinson Law and the Penn State College of Medicine, and continuing education opportunities.

This is a term-one-year contract and will be reviewed for renewal. Contract end date to 12/31/2025. A full clearance check is needed and a MVR is required. The person will be using their vehicle to perform site visits in K-12 schools and will submit for mileage reimbursement.

The School of Behavioral Sciences and Education's mission is to foster critical thinking skills and holistic well-being, celebrate diversity and individual differences, and provide excellence in teaching and advising through innovative academic programs, and in basic and applied research and creative accomplishments that contribute to a body of knowledge and peoples' quality of life. The School offers a variety of undergraduate and graduate academic programs in three broad, academic domains: Health and Professional Studies, Social Sciences and Psychology, and Teacher Education. The school offers undergraduate degrees in biobehavioral health, human development and family studies, kinesiology, nursing, psychology, sociology, elementary, secondary, literacy, and special education; and graduate programs in applied behavior analysis, applied clinical psychology, and teaching and curriculum. Position Summary: The Instructor or Assistant Teaching Professor of Education is a one-year appointment Full-Time Non-Tenure-Line faculty position within the Teacher Education program at Penn State Harrisburg, beginning January 2025. We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual who shares our commitment to teaching, research, and service. The successful candidate will contribute to our efforts to create a welcoming and inclusive learning environment for students, foster robust, collaborative research, and engage in service activities supporting institutional goals.

Responsibilities: The primary responsibilities of the Instructor or Assistant Teaching Professor of Education include:

Teaching: Candidates will be expected to teach four courses per semester, including undergraduate and graduate elementary and secondary education courses, participate in academic advising, participate in recruitment and accreditation efforts, and supervise candidates in field/student teaching experiences.

Research/Scholarship/Creative Accomplishments: The candidate is expected to engage in scholarly activities in their respective area of expertise.

Service: The candidate is expected to provide service across the College and University that promotes a commitment to the professional and regional community of the campus, including DEIB goals, such as committee work, community engagement, mentorship, and other contributions to the campus and the broader academic community.

Qualifications: To be considered for the Instructor or Assistant Teaching Professor of Education, candidates should possess the following qualifications:

Education: An earned master's or a doctorate degree in curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, or a closely related field is required. Individuals with a master's degree will be considered at the rank of instructor, and individuals with a doctoral degree (e.g., PhD, DEd) will be considered at the rank of assistant teaching professor.

Expertise: Candidates who have K-12 teaching experience and demonstrated expertise in the areas of educational psychology, curriculum foundations and development, and classroom assessment and data literacy will receive special consideration.

Experience: The preferred candidate will have a minimum of 3 years teaching experience and hold a current Pennsylvania Level II instructional certificate.
