Housed in SCSU’s School of Education, the Child and Family Studies Department offers certificates (licenses) and both graduate and undergraduate degrees. As the name implies, the programs of study include Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, Parent Education, and Family Studies. It is the only program in the state in which early childhood education, parent and family education and early childhood special education are combined in one department, providing a genuine early development and education focus. The Child and Family Studies enjoys a collaborative relationship with SCSU’s Lindgren Child Care Center, which is nationally accredited by NAEYC and NAECP.
The School of Education enjoys a long and rich history of preparing teachers and other educational professionals. Programs are state and nationally accredited. Beginning in 1869 as St Cloud State Normal School, the focus on teaching and learning was a hallmark of our existence and continues to be prominent in our mission. In addition to Child and Family Studies undergraduate and graduate programs include teacher development, information media, special education, educational leadership, higher education, and human relations and multicultural education.
