Personal computing devices have profoundly changed how individuals interact with each other and with their surroundings. The industry is rapidly developing new capabilities for personal computing devices, e.g., virtual reality/augmented reality/gaming capabilities. One of the first areas to exploit these new capabilities is education, e.g., using VR/AR/gaming techniques in the development of realistic, immersive simulations, using AR/VR in the development of media-enhanced learning materials. Thus, the Department of Learning Technologies seeks a faculty member who is exploring how AR/VR/gaming can be used in design, development, and evaluation of next generation learning environments.
The new faculty will play a critical role in supporting the departments’ expanding Distributed PhD program, as we anticipate that there will be an increasing demand from incoming students for research and training in the emerging area of personalized learning systems. Expanding a sustaining a first-class doctoral program is essential to maintaining the goal of continuing to be a Carnegie Tier I research University.
Normal responsibilities associated with this position includes two courses or equivalent service or research each long semester, serving on department and college committees, and engaging actively in scholarly efforts including publishing, research and seeking external funding. Each faculty member is expected to supervised graduate students and maintain an up-to-date summary in the university’s faculty information system.
PhD in Learning Technologies or closely related field.
