The
Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo, State University of New York, invites applications for an
Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position in Literacy Education, in the
Department of Learning and Instruction. The Department of Learning and Instruction has a long history of research excellence and a strong tradition of teaching and community engagement. Faculty demonstrate a commitment to creating a collegial academic environment characterized by equity, social justice, interdisciplinary collaboration, an ethic of care, and research demonstrating an impact on children and youth, schools, or communities.
We seek candidates to join a collaborative, pragmatic group of scholars who are committed to conducting school-based research on reading, writing, and literacy instruction in P-12 settings. Candidates should be committed to working with culturally and linguistically diverse students in historically underserved school settings. Research interests should align with a commitment to providing access to high-quality literacy instruction and experiences from asset-based perspectives. Specifically, we welcome applicants with diverse methodological expertise including but not limited to quantitative and/or mixed methods research as well as applications from candidates who conduct qualitative research on literacy interventions in school-based settings. Qualified candidates should have a research agenda addressing current topics in the field of literacy education such as response to intervention, high-dosage tutoring, generative AI, or other areas.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintaining an active and productive research agenda commensurate with Research 1 tenure track faculty appointments
- Seeking external grant funding
- Teaching two courses per semester in graduate literacy programs
- Teaching and Advising Ed.M. and Ph.D. Students
- Serving the institution and the field of literacy education
Appointments are for a ten-month academic year beginning in the Fall of 2025.
