The Opportunity:
The Department of Advising and Academic Development is seeking experienced Academic Advising Faculty to serve as Academic Advisors for General Education students, as well as teach Student Development and Career Exploration courses. These classes are centered on the University’s learning outcomes, as well as more traditional topics of academic and personal adjustment to University life. For those Faculty in the Department, the advising/mentoring role is equally important to teaching; through advising classes and individual advising appointments, Faculty mentor students and help them navigate University life.
The Department of Advising and Academic Development is one of four Departments within University College which offers high quality foundational liberal education, the Colloquy on Integrated Learning, to students and prepares them for their future majors and eventual employment. The experience instills in the students a desire for lifelong learning, fosters intellectual curiosity and engenders critical thinking. The Colloquy Program initiates the Baccalaureate careers of all ZU students and has as its goal the building of students' understanding of their relation to the world and to equip them to be successful at the University, in their professions and in their personal lives, through an integrated, skill-rich, interdisciplinary core curriculum.
The Requirements:
• Minimum of a Master's degree in Student Personnel, Counseling, Higher Education or related field.
• A record of successful Baccalaureate-level teaching in a Western or Western-style university or college.
• Experience working as an academic advisor and or First Year Experience in a Western-style college/university.
• Experience in both teaching and advising in higher education.
• Strong commitment to student success.
• Familiarity with student-centered learning strategies.
• Demonstrated skills working with different cultures in a sensitive manner.
• Flexible attitude and ability to work in teams.
• Native proficiency in written and spoken English.
