DEAN -- SCHOOL OF EDUCATION
The Sage Colleges seek nominations and expressions of interest for the leadership position of Dean of the School of Education.
The Sage Colleges are comprised of Russell Sage College for Women, Troy, NY; the co-educational Sage College of Albany, Albany, NY; and, the Undergraduate and Graduate Schools of Health Sciences, Management, the Arts and Education.
Reporting to the Vice-President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of the School of Education will work with the President, the Faculty, Staff and students to advance the School of Education as a school where leadership is valued, research is encouraged and the community is included.
The Colleges seek an individual committed to its mission to prepare highly effective leaders, counselors and educators in the professions of Childhood and Adolescence Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, Community Health, Literacy, Special Education and Educational Leadership. The ability to develop relationships that heighten the visibility and financial strength of the School is vital.
The Dean will be expected to be a visible, active leader for the School of Education, translating the motto "To Be, To Know, To Do" into practical application.
Faculty and students of the School of Education understand themselves in relation to learners, their families and the local and global community. They are inspired by the obligation to lead and serve, coming together over the question "Who am I in the life of my educational community?" They partner learning into action. The School of Education relies heavily upon the tenets of its Conceptual Framework which incorporate Valuing Diversity, Inclusion, Reflection and Best Practices in Education, including technology.
The School of Education is respected within New York’s Capital District and the State, as a whole, as a model for higher education programs, practices and achievements.
The Dean will act as ambassador, enjoying the opportunity to advance the School, secure its reputation and take pleasure in producing highly respected graduates.
The successful candidate will have demonstrated leadership and administrative experience in higher education and/or in the public sector. This individual must resonate with the mission and values of The Sage Colleges, exhibiting strength of character and an entrepreneurial spirit. The Dean should have the interpersonal skills to work with a broad spectrum of internal and external constituents, raising funds and building additional partnerships for the School. This individual will be an advocate for a diverse and deeply committed Faculty, that sees the student as the center of the learning experience.
Executive experience, a love of teaching and research initiatives, as well as a terminal degree, are required. The ability to provide leadership in national accreditation and state accreditation certification processes is highly valued.
