Required: Earned Doctorate in Communication Disorders, with an emphasis in Bilingual/Bi- Cultural Issues and one or more of the following areas: Dysphagia, Motor Speech Disorders, or Medical SLP. Candidates must have an active record of scholarship, research, and development in their specialty area of communicative disorders. CCC-SLP and eligibility for CA License in Speech-Language Pathology required.
Preferred: San Jose State University is especially interested in candidates who are sensitive to the varied educational needs of a culturally diverse community and willing to address the concerns of all through a variety of course materials, teaching strategies, and advising. Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply. Located in the heart of Silicon Valley, San Jose State embraces academic technological innovations. Familiarity with academic technology and learning management systems is desired. Although candidates should have primary specialization(s) as stated above, candidates with other clinical/research interests will be fully considered. Interest in or experience of being a department also desired.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses; supervise clinical practicum and participate in student advisement. Maintain an active research program consistent with the candidate’s area of expertise. Develop internal/external collaborative teaching and/or research partnerships. The successful candidate will prepare personnel to assume a variety of positions within schools, hospitals, and clinics. Responsibilities may include leadership in the administration of the department. San Jose State faculty must address the needs of a student and clinical population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation.
