The Special Education Program at the University of Maryland is seeking applications for an Assistant Clinical Professor with an emphasis in severe disabilities. The position is clinical track (with a renewable contract contingent upon funding and performance) and is scheduled to begin August 2020, or as soon as feasible.

The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of severe disabilities, including instructional practices, and high impact evidence-based practices to teach special education courses to undergraduate students, elementary special education teacher candidates, and special education graduate students. Courses focus on beginning and advanced instruction of students with severe disabilities, teacher candidate research projects, and observation of fieldwork.

The person who fills this position will work collaboratively with faculty and personnel from the Special Education Program, Maryland School Districts, the Kennedy Krieger Institute and Maryland State Department of Education. Specifically, duties include program review, student advisement, coordination of field placement settings designed for children with severe disabilities, attendance at Institute of Higher Education meetings with the Maryland State Department of Education, online course development, alignment of core standards, as well as mentoring adjunct faculty, and co-teaching within the program.

Applicants should have experience and skill in teaching undergraduate or graduate students.

Minimum Qualifications:
 Minimum of a doctoral degree in the area of special education
 Evidence of excellence teaching for 2 or more semesters in a university setting
 2 or more years of working with children with severe disabilities
 Evidence of the ability to multi-task and work with an array of stakeholders
 Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:
 2 or more years of experience working in public school settings with children with severe disabilities
 Knowledge of teacher preparation standards (e.g., CEC Standards, InTASC, CAEP)
 Experience in advising graduate students.
 An established record of supervision and collaboration in professional development public school communities
