Position Description Summary
The Department of Counseling and Higher Education at Northern Illinois University seeks to hire a full professor with expertise in higher education to serve as the Niemi Endowed Professor. The successful candidate will have a record of outstanding scholarship, teaching, and service in higher education. Further, the successful candidate will contribute in the areas of scholarly productivity; grant procurement; graduate student mentorship; thesis/project direction; university, college, and departmental committee service; and the establishment of partnerships with professional organizations within both the Illinois region and nationally. Participate in student recruitment and retention initiatives, develop innovative department/college curricular and programmatic initiatives. The qualified candidate is expected to teach graduate courses at the DeKalb and Naperville campuses and online. Appointment will commence August 16, 2021.
Required Qualifications
1. An earned doctorate from an accredited university in higher education or closely related field
2. Experience commensurate with rank of Full Professor
3. Outstanding record of published research, grants and conference presentations in higher education along with record of collaborative research with students
4.Evidence of successful professional experience as a practitioner/educator in higher education administration, student affairs, or community college administration
5. Demonstrated record of equity-minded pedagogical practices and ability to work effectively with historically underrepresented or marginalized students
6. Experience teaching, mentoring, and advising graduate students
7. Experience using a variety of instructional technology in teaching and delivery methods
8. Excellent oral and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
1. Expertise in the areas of leadership, organizational change, minority-serving institutions, social justice, and/or student success for historically underrepresented or marginalized student populations
2. Teaching and scholarly record in the areas of assessment, evaluation, and/or quantitative research methods
3. Evidence of experience in mentoring and advising graduate students and serving as a dissertation chair
4. Five years+ of practitioner’s experience in higher education administration
5. Leadership in state, regional, national, or international professional associations
