Job Description Summary
The Department of Curriculum & Teaching at Auburn University seeks to fill a non-tenured track, 9-month position as Lecturer in the Music Education program. The successful candidate will teach graduate and undergraduate courses and supervise student teaching interns in the Music Education program. The candidate will be expected to create teaching and learning opportunities that:
1. Support the development of content and pedagogical knowledge in Music Education.
2. Foster professional dispositions for teaching.
3. Facilitate the capacity to work with diverse communities, including with English language learners, by demonstrating a commitment to understanding and addressing issues of equity and diversity related to Music Education.
Other responsibilities include supervision of field experiences and collaboration with faculty to revise course content as necessary. Classes and field experiences are conducted face-to-face on the Auburn University campus and in local schools as well as through distance education modalities.
Lecturer (non-tenure track, nine-month contract) at a salary commensurate with experience and other qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications
· An earned doctorate degree in Music Education (or an equivalent field) from an accredited institution at the time employment begins.
· A minimum of three years of full-time classroom teaching experience in Music Education at Early Childhood, Elementary, and/or Secondary Level.
· An ability to teach undergraduate/graduate courses and supervise interns in Music Education
· An ability to collaborate with local school administrations, teachers, students, and community members on matters related to music education.
Desired Qualifications
· Evidence of a professional commitment toward equity-based and justice-oriented teaching
· Experience teaching Music Education teaching methods
· Experience supervising preservice teaching interns
· Active participation in state, regional, and/or national professional organizations
· Extensive classroom experience teaching Music Education in diverse settings.
· Experience teaching Music Education at early childhood and/or elementary education levels
