- Teach primarily language arts and reading content area classes in traditional, online, and/or hybrid settings. Example courses include (but are not limited to): Language Arts I, Language Arts II, Language Arts III, Content Area Reading, Developmental Reading in the Middle School, Foundations, Pedagogy, and graduate level courses in the Reading Licensure Program.
- Contribute to a program of scholarship within the discipline, student advising, service to the University and community, and other associated faculty duties.
- Contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and involvement in activities that support Bemidji State University’s signature themes: Environmental stewardship, Civic engagement, Global/Multicultural Understanding.
- The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to a collegial and supportive environment that advances the goals of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental governance activities.
- Assist the department with state-PELSB (former Board of Teaching) and national-AAQEP accreditation and program approvals.
- Supervise student teachers.
- This position will be based on the Bemidji State University campus in Bemidji, MN.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum:
- Earned doctorate with advanced studies in reading from a regionally accredited university or college
- Demonstrated commitment to quality teaching is required.
- K-12 Literacy experience required and at least one year of recent K-12 teaching (reading) and/or mentoring and/or literacy coaching experience.
- 3 or more years of recent successful K-8 teaching experience
- Meet the requirement to and/or have experience in serving on a Master level research paper/capstone project committee as an advisor, committee member, or graduate representative.
Preferred:
- Background in Early Childhood instruction, mentoring, and/or coaching.
- Experience working with Minnesota state standards for K-12 preferred, but experience with other state standards will be considered.
- Experience supervising student teachers or mentoring current teachers preferred.
- Knowledge of D2L Brightspace, Taskstream, and/or other online platforms for instruction and data management
- Demonstrated experience working with and/or interest working with students and colleagues from multi-cultural and diverse backgrounds and using culturally responsive pedagogy and practice.
- Background in working with students with English Language Learner needs
- Experience and background in literacy curriculum and assessment to best meet the needs of a variety of learners, both with struggling readers and students identified as gifted and talented.
- Experience working with state standards for literacy instruction.
- Evidence of experience in co-teaching and/or collaborating with peers for planning, instruction, and assessment of learners.
