Position Summary

Reporting directly to the executive vice president and provost, the dean of The Patton College of Education serves as its chief academic and administrative officer. The dean is responsible for planning and managing the operational, personnel, budgetary, external relations, and student activities of the college while providing leadership and direction in the development and implementation of modern and relevant curricula and academic programming. The dean is expected to foster interdisciplinary collaborations within the college and across campuses, faculty and student research, open communication, and facilitate strategic planning and goal development across the academic departments in unison with the University's boarder strategic framework. The dean must have a deep commitment to recruiting and retaining diverse faculty and staff members, as well as to equitable outcome for students from diverse backgrounds.

The dean will serve as a visible advocate for The Patton College of Education on campus, within the community, and with friends and alumni globally. They will help to shape conversations about education policy at the state and national level. They also will work to sustain and deepen partnerships and generate creative revenue streams to support a balanced college focused on teaching, research, and service. The dean must understand the diverse disciplines offered in the college and their accreditation standards.

The next dean should be an experienced academician and administrator with a deep understanding and knowledge of student success, enrollment, innovative programming, and faculty recruitment and development. The ideal dean has experience in external resource generation through partnerships, alumni engagement, development, and fundraising.

Summary of Qualifications

Candidates for the position should have a terminal degree in a discipline within The Patton College and be able to meet the requirements of a full professor. It is expected that candidates will have a proven record of success as an academic and administrative leader with supervisory experience equivalent to that of chair or higher.

Provost Office

Pay Rate: Competitive Base Salary
Based on extensive benchmarking data, the Dean of The Gladys W. and David H. Patton College of Education has minimum salary of $230,000. The exact base salary for the selected candidate will be negotiable, commensurate with education and experience, and competitive in the field within the context of similarly situated positions at public universities in the state of Ohio and beyond.
