Ngā kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

This position provides an opportunity to bring your passion and drive to enrich and empower students throughout their academic journey. You will bring your knowledge of the New Zealand Curriculum and current literacy practices in schools to our teacher education programmes. Whilst your position will have a focus on Literacy Education, opportunities exist for staff to contribute to other areas that benefit from their knowledge and expertise.

To succeed in this position, you will have a record of quality scholarly achievement with the ability to lead research activities and you will be expected to contribute to the graduate and postgraduate programmes including the supervision of Honours, Masters and PhD students.

Ko wai koe? – Who are you?

To be successful in this position you will have a broad and in-depth knowledge of initial teacher education, specifically in primary school year 0-8 literacy education. It is essential to have current knowledge of the New Zealand curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa. Your ability to evaluate and mentor initial teacher education students in their professional experience will contribute to an essential component of the students’ journey.

The University is committed to Māori and Pacific learner success and it would be strongly desirable to have an understanding of bicultural approaches and knowledge of Māori and Pasifika perspectives.

You will have a PhD in a relevant discipline, or be in the final stages of completion if applying at Lecturer level, and preferably a teaching qualification and proven successful teaching skills at tertiary level.

The Lecturer range is NZ$79,337 to $95,551 per year, Senior Lecturer range is NZ$98,280 to $129,402 per year and Associate Professor range is NZ$131,040 to $144,690 per year. The salary will be commensurate with the level of appointment.
