Teach primary (K-6) language arts and secondary (5-12) reading in the content area classes in traditional, online, and/or hybrid settings. The applicant would be expected to teach courses that would include, but are not limited to: Content Area Reading, Developmental Reading in the Middle School, Language Arts 1, Language Arts II, Language Arts III, and graduate level courses.
Contribute to a program of scholarship within the discipline, student advising, service to the University and community, and other associated faculty duties.
Contribute to interdisciplinary teaching and involvement in activities that support Bemidji State University’s signature themes: Environmental stewardship, Civic engagement, Global/Multicultural Understanding.
Contribute to a collegial and supportive environment that advances the goals of the department, including curriculum development, assessment, and other departmental governance activities.
Assist with state, regional, national accreditation and program approvals.
Supervise student teachers.
Serve on a Master level research paper/capstone project committee as an advisor, committee member, or graduate representative.
Commitment to quality teaching and continued professional development.
Knowledge and use of D2L Brightspace, Taskstream, and/or other online platforms for instruction and data management.
This position will be based on the Bemidji State University campus in Bemidji, MN.
MINIMUMQUALIFICATIONS: (To facilitate proper crediting, please ensure that your application and/or resume clearly demonstrate fulfillment of the following minimum qualifications)
Earned doctorate with at least 18 graduate credits in reading from a regionally accredited institution at the start of employment.
K-12 Literacy experience and at least three years teaching K-12 teaching (reading) as teacher of record.
Professional teaching license; with a Reading K-12 or Communication, Arts, & Literature-5-12.
Background knowledge and/or interest and/or experience working with Native American students.
Demonstrates experience with and/or interest in working with students and colleagues from multicultural and diverse backgrounds and using culturally responsive pedagogy and practice.
Evidence or willingness to collaborate with peers for planning, instruction, and assessment of a variety of learners (i.e. gifted and talented, struggling readers).
