Position: The College of Education at Wayne State University is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Start Date: August 17, 2023.

Minimum Qualifications: 

  • Research Focus: We seek a scholar whose research focuses on educational leadership and/or policy, broadly defined (e.g., K-12 administrative or teacher leadership, accountability policy, school finance, special education, higher education, etc).
  • Intersectional Justice: Applicants must demonstrate commitment to intersectional justice through their research, teaching, and/or service.
  • Scholarly Productivity: We seek a developing scholar who has demonstrated scholarly productivity through conference papers/presentation; publications in educational leadership and/or policy academic journals or book chapters; and has a clear, compelling research agenda.
  • Doctoral Advising: Applicants must have an interest in and capacity to begin advising doctoral students within the first two years of appointment.
  • Embody Program Values: Important review criteria include evidence of a commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds; commitment to excellence in teaching and advising; and eagerness to embody the program theme: To prepare educational leaders who are reflective, innovative professionals who will affirm and demonstrate their commitment to equitable and just education. 
  • Applicants must have earned a doctorate in educational leadership, educational policy, or a related field by the start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bridge K-12 and Higher Education: We are especially interested in applicants whose work and interest extends and strengthens the expertise of current faculty to address issues in both K-12 and higher education leadership and/or policy.
  • Experience in Education: We are especially interested in applicants who have experience working in an educational setting, preferably in an urban setting (e.g., K-12 teaching/leadership, out-of-school youth serving program, higher education, etc.).
  • Research Focus: We are especially interested in candidates who apply equity-focused theoretical lenses (e.g., Critical Race Theory, Intersectionality, Critical Policy/Leadership Analysis etc.) and/or quantitative critical methodologies to their work.

The Program: Educational Leadership and Policy Studies is a program within the Division of Administrative and Organizational Studies in the College of Education. We serve graduate students in our Master’s of Education in Administration, Education Specialist, Ed.D., and Ph.D. programs. Our doctoral programs serve students interested in K-12 or higher education leadership/policy. We serve a diverse student body, and nearly half of our students identify as Black. Most of our students work full-time in local K-12 schools or the university community while earning their degrees. Program faculty lead the Detroit Partnership for Education, Equity, & Research (PEER), a growing research-practice partnership with local schools and community organizations.
