The Education Department at Wagner College invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor: Childhood Education, Grades 1-6 to coordinate and be a liaison with curriculum coordinators, teaching leaders, and faculty in the primary and secondary schools, and to develop and further implement a shared interdisciplinary vision across the College’s programs.
The position’s essential duties and responsibilities include offering courses as part of the Wagner College education department curriculum, participating in K-12 curriculum development with our partner schools; identifying and developing interdisciplinary connections; leading professional development for K-12 teachers; and publishing in the childhood education field. The position promotes childhood education curricular options and co-curricular activities; models design thinking and other innovation frameworks; raises awareness of elementary education initiatives among students, teachers, parents and the wider community; and catalyzes innovative thinking among all stakeholders. This position also includes advising students, making scholarly contributions, and serving on campus committees.
Preferred candidates will have at least five years of teaching experience in childhood education at K-12 level; experience and research regarding mathematics and science education is highly preferred. They should be proven leaders with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, students, parents, staff, and national and international educators. They must be able to advance the department’s mission, vision, and strategic plan; to support student learning and achievement through collaborative effort and research-based educational leadership, teaching, and learning; and support and advance aspects of childhood education in the context of international education.
Qualifications for this position include:
· Ph.D. or Ed.D. in instruction and learning, or a related field required
· Minimum of five years of teaching experience in childhood education, Grades 1-6 instruction, program design, evaluation and assessment required and experience teaching in higher education
· Strong experience working in K-12 curriculum and instruction program design
· Strong instructional and program design experience
· Demonstrated ability to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels
· Experience working with education in-service and professional development programs
· Experience with student academic advising and field supervision at the undergraduate and graduate level
