The Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation in the College of Education at the University of Kentucky invites applications for the position of Department Chair at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, regular title series, tenure- eligible, in a field appropriate to the interdisciplinary degree offerings in the department, to begin July 1, 2024.

The Department of Educational Policy Studies and Evaluation is an innovative, interdisciplinary department with expansive methodological and topical expertise studying contemporary issues of education policy spanning from pre-school through graduate school. The department is home to two masters programs (Educational Research Methods and Policy Studies and Higher Education), a doctoral program (Studies in Higher Education), and two strands in the College of Education’s interdisciplinary doctoral program in Education Sciences (Educational Evaluation and Policy and Philosophical and Cultural Inquiry). The department also houses popular certificate programs in Research Methods in Education, International and Comparative Education, and a Senior Diversity Officer certificate. The faculty of the department anchors in research methods and strong disciplinary expertise in education, history, law, philosophy, and sociology. RESPONSIBILITIES: The Department Chair represents the department in college, university, and external strategic initiatives. As a tenured faculty member in the department, the department chair will be expected to engage in national and internationally recognized research (i.e., publishing and conference presenting, externally funded projects and proposals), teach graduate courses (with reduced teaching load), mentor graduate students (i.e., serve as thesis/dissertation chair or committee member), and support faculty productivity and development.

Finally, the Department Chair is responsible for duties including, but not limited to: working with graduate program chairs in the recruitment, admissions, enrollment, and retention of students as well as programmatic assessment reports, working with/supervising the Department Support Specialist with course scheduling, faculty workloads, curriculum development, faculty recruitment and appointment; faculty/staff performance evaluation; working with College of Education staff regarding budgetary management, philanthropic efforts, marketing and social media/print advertisement of graduate programs; working with department faculty, students, staff, and postdocs.
