The Graduate School of Education seeks a Mental Health Counseling Program and Clinical Director (PCD) for the Department of Counseling, School and Educational Psychology at the University at Buffalo. The Mental Health Counseling Program and Clinical Director (PCD) plays a key administrative role with the mental health counseling master’s (MA) and advanced graduate certificate (AGC) programs.

Under the direction of the mental health counseling faculty, the PCD will provide leadership for the mental health counseling master’s (MA) and advanced graduate certificate (AGC) programs; directing admissions and training for these programs; ensuring compliance with accreditation standards; formulating policy in consultation with students, faculty, and staff members as it relates to the program; and coordinating internship placements according to university, NY State, and applicable accreditations guidelines.

The PCD will work with and maintain current accreditation/licensing qualifying standards (Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council – MPCAC) and New York State.

This includes but is not limited to;
  • Maintain records and complete reports required by the accreditation and university.
  • Preparing and distributing the Student Handbook, Internship Manual, and other program literature and website.
  • Supervising admissions processes and applications.
  • Coordination of clinical placements.
  • Managing student success, competencies, and concerns.
  • Participates in university meetings.
The PCD will arrange for a panel or other methods of introducing students to available internship sites and the site selection and setup process. Supervisor guidelines and student evaluation information will be explained to students. Collaboration with instructors of internship and faculty advisors regarding the internship site search and selection process will occur as needed. PCD will manage student internship competencies and concerns.

Additional duties include:
  • Coordination of clinical placements requires phone, email contact, and in-person site visits, recurring as needed.
  • Securing new or maintaining existing Affiliation Agreements with all field sites is an important duty.
  • Additional written documentation (e.g., appreciation letters, file notes, compilation of site supervisor resumes, and evaluation forms, clinical hour logs, etc.) will be created and/or filed as needed.
  • Compile and maintain a database describing field placement sites, supervisors, MHC interns, and contacts.
  • Community outreach efforts to develop new clinical training sites and identify suitable supervisors.
The PCD works closely with other Program Directors within the Department of Counseling, School, and Educational Psychology and attends monthly Program Director meetings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in a counseling related field.
  • One year of experience providing graduate-level students coordination or supervision as PCD positions are principally leadership roles.
  • Advanced skills in professional writing, communication, and basic database management.
