The Old Dominion University Department of Communication Disorders and Special Education is inviting applications for a position as Lecturer in Special Education (12- month, non-tenure track). This program offers undergraduate, Master’s, and PhD degrees. Duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in special education, advising students, supervising teacher candidates seeking certification in special education general curriculum disabilities, and providing community outreach. Candidates will be expected to teach in traditional, on-campus classroom settings, and in field-based or distance learning modalities (i.e., web-conferencing, online).

Qualifications
Applicant must have:

  1. A Master’s degree in special education;
  2. A certification in one or more areas of special education;
  3. Expertise in educational programming for students with mild/high-incidence disabilities accessing the general curriculum;
  4. Teaching experience in K-12 settings with diverse cultural, linguistic, and ethnic groups, and in settings that serve students with and without disabilities; and
  5. Strong verbal, written, and technology skills are required.

Preferred candidates for the position would have experience with the following:

  • Online instruction and/or post-secondary teaching in special education
  • Emphasis on the general curriculum K-12 (e.g., students with a specific learning disability)
  • Collaborative efforts involving public schools, postsecondary institutions, and/or community agencies
  • Effective integration of technology in the instructional process; and participation in accreditation review processes
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity and participation in program decision-making
