Primary Purpose of Position
The Chairperson of the Leadership Studies and Adult Education Department reports to the College of Education Dean and serves as the chief administrative and academic leader of the department. In addition to the general oversight of the department, he or she will be responsible for strategic planning; budget development, management and allocation; recruitment and retention of faculty and students; faculty, staff, and student development; management and improvement of curricula; evaluating faculty performance for the allocation of awards; fundraising; interacting with other department and university leaders to represent the goals of the department. The chairperson must be a collaborative and visionary leader willing to work in a team atmosphere to increase recruitment, retention, and graduation rates of students in all degree programs.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit
The vision of the College of Education is to become a recognized national leader in the advancement of transformative research and practice on equity, access, and advocacy through the preparation of culturally responsive and sustainable scholars, practitioners, and innovators. The Department of Leadership Studies and Adult Education currently offers an interdisciplinary PhD degree in Leadership Studies, a Master’s Degree in Adult Education, Master of School Administration degree, and a Master of School Administration Certificate program. The master’s degree program in Adult Education prepares professionals to become leaders for adult learners in businesses, for-profit and non-profit organizations, community colleges, and four-year institutions of higher education. The Master of School Administration (MSA) degree and certificate programs are designed to prepare school executives as culturally responsive leaders who can transform marginalized communities. These leadership roles include superintendents, central office administrators, principals, and assistant principals. The Leadership Studies doctoral program is an interdisciplinary degree designed to prepare professionals to become transformative scholars in the leadership discipline.
The candidate must hold an earned doctorate in leadership studies, educational leadership, educational administration, adult education, or related field and be eligible to be tenured at the Associate or Full professor level within the Department of Leadership Studies and Adult Education. He or she must have demonstrated excellence in leadership and administration, with a minimum of five years of experience in an administrative and/or teaching position at the university level.

Preference will be given to candidates with a strong record of publication, effective grant writing and procurement, and demonstrated leadership in an academic setting.
The successful candidate will be a collaborative, team-oriented, imaginative and inspiring person with a distinguished record of scholarly accomplishments and administrative experience.
