Faculty of Health & Community Studies

MacEwan University inspires students through a powerful combination of academic excellence and personal learning experiences. Located in culturally enriched, downtown Edmonton, our comprehensive undergraduate university offers over 65 programs to 19,000 full- and part-time students. With a dedication to teaching excellence informed by scholarly research and creative activity, MacEwan provides an exceptional collaborative and supportive learning environment with a commitment to environmental sustainability and opportunities for community engagement. In support of faculty professional development, unique and enhanced services are provided through the MacEwan Office of Teaching and Learning.

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Curriculum Studies Degree (BECCS) is a four-year program that prepares graduates for pedagogical leadership roles in a variety of early childhood settings (0-12 years), where they will advance the play, learning and development of children and families through responsive curriculum and pedagogy. This new and unique degree is designed to meet the changing landscape of early learning in Alberta. The degree emphasizes the integration of theory with practice and includes extensive field placement hours and a senior internship in the fourth year. ELM, the MacEwan Early Learning and Child Care Lab School, supports the academic, research and service mission of the degree.

The Bachelor of Early Childhood Curriculum Studies Degree Program invites applications for two full-time tenure-track appointments at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing July 1, 2020, subject to final budgetary approval.

Successful candidates will have demonstrated teaching skills and knowledge of early learning theory, policy, curriculum and practice. The candidates must also have familiarity with Flight: Alberta’s Early Learning and Care Framework. The program is seeking faculty with a proven commitment to promoting quality early childhood education, diversity, inclusion, social justice and ethical early learning practice and leadership. The successful candidates will be expected to participate in the launch and continuing development of the new BECCS degree. Knowledge and skill in course design and development will be welcomed.

Candidates will hold a Ph.D. or have ABD status in Early Childhood Education or a related field (i.e. Education, Human Ecology, Child and Youth Care, Pedagogy). The ideal candidates will demonstrate a primary commitment to undergraduate teaching, potential for an ongoing research program and a willingness to engage in service to the program, the University and the community. Direct experience working with children and families in early learning and child care programs is an asset.
