Position: Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Practice in Applied Behavior Analysis (appointment-stream)


Appointment: 12-month, full-time, appointment-stream; starting Fall 2024 


The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Leading in The School of Education at the University of Pittsburgh seeks an assistant, associate, or full professor of practice in applied behavior analysis (ABA). We seek an individual dedicated to advancing equity and justice through excellence in teaching and committed to practice and engagement with communities.


The candidate would teach in a vibrant community in the School of Education, at a time of great excitement, synergy, momentum, and action, particularly in relation to our explicit commitment to educational equity and justice. This person would be responsible for:


  1. Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in the ABA M.Ed./certificate programs (e.g., courses in the ABA verified course sequence) and the special education program (e.g., Foundations of Special Education) that contribute and enhance the School’s culture of equity and justice.
  2. Coordinating the ABA M.Ed /certificate programs.
  3. Acting as the liaison between the ABA M.Ed /cert programs and both the Behavior Analysis Certification Board ( and the Association for Behavior Analysis International (
  4. Advising and/or co-advising ABA M.Ed and ABA Cert students and participating in ABA students’ committees and opportunities to co-advise ABA and Special Education Ph.D. and Ed.D. students.
  5. Creating and overseeing partnerships for ABA practicum opportunities for our students.
  6. Working with other ABA Faculty to assist in the transition of the ABA M.Ed program to accreditation status with ABAI.
  7. Engaging in research/scholarship related to the field and candidate’s area of expertise.
  8. Contributing to the program/department/school via service.






  1. Earned a doctorate in applied behavior analysis, special education, psychology, or a closely related field at the time of appointment.
  2. Earned and maintains an active BCBA or BCBA-D level certification through the Behavior Analysis Certification Board ( and is qualified to provide BCBA supervision to University of Pittsburgh ABA students.
  3. Completed a minimum of three years of successful teaching and/or related professional-level direct service in special education or implementing applied behavior analytic techniques.
  4. Demonstrated proven excellence with university-level teaching.
  5. Demonstrated a commitment to equitable, just, and sustainable practices through teaching, service, and research.


Salary and Rank: Competitive salary will be commensurate with qualifications at the rank of appointment at time of hire (e.g., Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor of Practice. (appointment-stream).
