JOB TITLE:   

Assistant Professor, Elementary Mathematics Education

JOB PURPOSE:   

We welcome applications from candidates with expertise in mathematics education for the role of Assistant Professor of Elementary Mathematics Education at the University of Wyoming's College of Education. Our college boasts four nationally and internationally recognized scholars in mathematics education and holds a prominent standing in the inter-mountain region. This role plays a pivotal part in supporting mathematics education and teacher preparation initiatives within the state of Wyoming.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:  

The Assistant Professor will be responsible for a range of duties, including:

Teaching:

  • Deliver undergraduate courses, both in traditional on-campus settings and through distance education platforms.
  • Continuously enhance competence in the subjects taught.
  • Develop teaching materials and resources.
  • Engage with students, providing guidance on course materials.
  • Supervise and direct dissertations, theses, and plan B papers.
  • Oversee individual and group studies, practical, and clinical internships.
  • Review written examinations and papers.
  • Evaluate artistic presentations.
  • Teach or supervise independent study projects.
  • Adapt workload as needed in compliance with UW Regulation 2-9 (Faculty workload).

Advising:

  • Provide academic, curricular, and career advising to students.
  • Serve as a member, co-chair, or chair on graduate committees in (mathematics) education at the master's and doctoral levels.

Research and Scholarly Activity:

  • Create and contribute to knowledge in the field, including advancing new theories and principles.
  • Expand and interpret existing ideas, theories, and principles.
  • Enhance and apply knowledge, particularly in novel contexts.
  • Ensure open dissemination and subject research to professional peer review.

Faculty members are expected to engage collegially and adhere to professional and ethical principles when interacting with fellow faculty, students, administrators, and the public. Academic professionals enjoy academic freedom as per the AAUP statement on academic freedom and responsibilities of faculty members, as outlined in University Regulation 5-1, section A.

REMOTE WORK ELIGIBILITY: 

This position provides vital support to campus customers and requires the successful candidate be available to work on campus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • An earned Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Mathematics Education or a closely related discipline or evidence of a forthcoming doctoral defense
  • Demonstrated or clear potential for excellence in teaching and student supervision
  • Valid driver's license with a motor vehicle record (MVR) compliant with the University Vehicle Use Policy

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Experience or potential for collaboration with mathematics educators at the state level
  • Proven record of teaching experience in school settings
  • Expertise in pedagogical innovations
  • Familiarity with mathematics curriculum development
