Position: Assistant, Associate, or Full (tenure/tenure-stream)
Appointment: Eight-month, full-time, tenure/tenure-stream: starting Fall 2022
The Department of Educational Foundations, Organizations, and Policy in the University of Pittsburgh School of Education seeks a faculty colleague to join our new program in Education Policy. We seek a scholar who employs innovative, applied quantitative research methodologies to explore and influence policy issues such as (but not limited to) early childhood education, teacher policy, market-based reforms, learning opportunities for students with disabilities and/or emergent multilingual learners, and continuous improvement of education systems at all levels. We seek applicants who conduct policy-relevant research that tackles critical questions related to equity and justice in education. We welcome applicants with experience supporting mixed methods research projects, reflecting appreciation for a range of methodological approaches. Expertise in causal research designs is a specific area of interest, but we are open to a range of innovative, applied methodological approaches such as education data science and predictive analytics. We seek a colleague who is committed to equity, justice and antiracism in their research, teaching and advising practices, and their service to the department, school, communities, and the field.
Responsibilities would include teaching master’s and doctoral courses in quantitative research methods and education policy and advising and mentoring students. This scholar would also be expected to participate in schoolwide conversations about our methodology offerings and lead development of new courses that augment and extend the current policy analysis curriculum.
The candidate would join the School of Education at a time of great excitement and action, particularly related to our commitments to equity and justice. Our mission-vision guides our work as a school, and we aim to determine sustainable ways to disrupt long-standing patterns of inequity in education.
QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates will have an earned doctorate in education policy or a closely related field; an established or emerging record of publication in peer-reviewed journals; demonstrated experience or promise in securing external grant funding as a principal investigator or co-principal investigator; demonstrated experience or promise for teaching graduate-level courses in applied quantitative research methods and policy analysis; demonstrated experience or promise in advisement and mentoring of students at the master’s and doctoral levels; and demonstrated experience or promise in engaging with local, national and/or global communities. Demonstrated experience (or future promise) designing and teaching online and hybrid undergraduate and graduate courses is desirable.
