Academic Coach – StAAR Center, School of Arts and Sciences – (20001629)
Description

The Student Accessibility and Academic Resource (StAAR) Center provides programs, services and resources to support instruction, enhance student academic success, provide support for students with disabilities, and retain a diverse student body. The StAAR Center provides academic resources for students outside of the classroom, including academic coaching, tutoring, tutor-led study groups, and workshops to help students become effective collaborative and independent learners. Additionally, the Center is responsible for providing collegiate accommodations for students with documented disabilities. StAAR also educates and informs faculty of their obligations and responsibilities to students with disabilities and advocates on behalf of students through university-wide initiatives and awareness education. This includes helping students manage their time, interpret their syllabi, develop studying techniques, note taking strategies and identifying additional resources needed. The Academic Coach serves as liaison to specific academic departments and partners to determine best methods of student support (workshops, study groups, tutoring), and helps departments think outside of the box. They are also responsible for developing and executing workshops and support opportunities that address student needs; this process includes oversight of StAAR student staff, including Graduate Mentors and undergraduate Subject Tutors. This position will work closely with departments in the School of Arts and Sciences, focusing on departments in the natural sciences and mathematics. This position will be fully remote in Spring 2021 but is intended to be in-person when in-person learning resumes at the University.
