Director of Clinical Education

 

Under the supervision of the Executive Director of the School of Physical Therapy, the Director of Clinical Education (Director 3) directs, organizes, coordinates, plans, assesses and administers the clinical education component of the doctor of physical therapy program at Kean University and at off-campus clinical sites. The Director of Clinical Education is responsible for the general supervision of physical therapy students enrolled in integrated and full-time clinical education courses in the physical therapy curriculum.

 

The Director of Clinical Education manages and coordinates the clinical education aspect of the curriculum and related program documentation including preparation of accreditation documentation and the annual University assessment plan and report; clinical affiliation agreements, student records, course assignments and student advising consistent with the policies and procedures of Kean University.

 

This is a 12-month, full time position for an accredited program that teaches entry-level physical therapy students and supervises clinical education experiences during the fall, spring and summer semesters. Responsibilities include managing clinical education operations including the preparation of physical therapy student clinical experiences; developing, implementing and assessing student and course learning objectives; clinical performance assessment; development and recommendation of clinical education policies and procedures; facilitating quality learning experiences for students during integrated and full-time clinical experiences; effective data management using academic and clinical education technology; and performing related work as required by the Executive Director. In addition to managerial duties and responsibilities, this position may be required to teach two in-load courses per academic semester (fall and spring). This position requires travel and a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours.

 

Qualifications: Doctor of physical therapy degree from a CAPTE-accredited physical therapist education program; active physical therapist licensure in any U.S. jurisdiction or eligibility for licensure in the State of New Jersey; and a minimum of three years of full-time, post-licensure clinical practice experience is required. Two years of experience in teaching, curriculum development and administration in a physical therapist education program may be substituted for the required experience. A post-professional/terminal academic degree (Ph.D., D.Sc., Ed.D. or equivalent degree) and two years of experience as a Site Coordinator of Clinical Education (SCCE) or PT Clinical Instructor (CI) is preferred. The successful candidate must demonstrate the experience needed to contribute to the educational and scholarly development of the doctor of physical therapy academic unit. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential.
