Position Summary
The Graduate School of Education at the University at Buffalo, SUNY, invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure-track) position in the Higher Education Program in the Department of Educational Leadership and Policy to start in Fall 2023. The Department of Educational Leadership and Policy has a long history of research excellence and a strong teaching and community engagement tradition. UB’s Higher Education program is committed to creating a collegial academic environment that is fundamentally concerned with access, equity, diversity, and inclusion throughout our two-degree programs: 1) Ed.M. in Higher Education and Student Affairs and 2) a Ph.D. in Higher Education.

Building on our expertise in college access, multicultural competence, social justice and inclusion, and gender (in)equity in higher education, we seek candidates whose research directly engages questions of how organizational structures, leadership, policy, and practice impact how historically underrepresented, marginalized, and neglected students experience higher education. More specifically, we seek a scholar whose research and teaching engage critical and innovative approaches and methods to address institutional challenges, environmental barriers, and social inequities.

We seek a colleague whose research will contribute to the program in one or more of the following areas:
Transformative higher education leadership (e.g., equity-based leadership, DEI policies, and practices, creating liberated campus environments)
Inclusive college curriculum and pedagogy (e.g., culturally responsive pedagogy, institutional barriers to curricular change, faculty resistance)
Impact of college policies and practices on marginalized students (e.g., inclusive wellness and mental health, BIPOC student success, trauma-informed practice, economic inequality, activism, and free speech on campus)
Equity-serving institutions (e.g., HBCU, TCU, HIS, AANAPISI, community colleges)

Responsibilities include:
Maintaining an active research agenda focused on issues of equity, diversity, justice, and inclusion commensurate with Research 1 tenure track faculty appointments
Ability to pursue and sustain external grant funding
Teaching two courses per semester at the graduate level in both the masters and Ph.D. program
Teaching and advising Ed.M. and Ph.D. students
Contributing to the intellectual community of the department

Minimum Qualifications
Earned doctorate in higher education, student affairs administration, or a closely related field
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated potential for research productivity via peer-reviewed scholarship
Research expertise in either quantitative or qualitative methodologies. Knowledge of critical quantitative (Quant/Crit) research methodologies especially desired
Demonstrated potential for excellence in the classroom
Experience working in student affairs
Experience teaching in online or hybrid formats
