The University of Oklahoma is a comprehensive research institution serving the educational, cultural, economic and health care needs of the State, the region and the nation.  As a state, Oklahoma is known for its leadership in early childhood education due to its quality rating and improvement system (QRIS), universal PreK, and innovative funding for birth to 3 programming.  Early Childhood research continues to be an area of priority for the University of Oklahoma who has recently articulated a strategic plan with ambitious goals for research. The OU Institute of Child Development was in the first group of licensed childcare facilities in the United States to be accredited by NAEYC, a status it maintains today.  The Institute of Child Development serves as the laboratory school for the department and university fulfilling teaching, research, and outreach missions.  A partnership is emerging with the Norman Public School District to develop a district wide birth to age 4 early childhood facility located on the campus. Additionally, the Tulsa Campus is home to the research group Early Childhood Education Institute (ECEI). The ECEI at OU-Tulsa strives to advance and support early childhood programming and policies by generating, disseminating, and applying meaningful research.  The ECEI conducts applied research with community partners including the 3 Tulsa Educare schools and CAP-Tulsa, a large provider of Head Start and Early Head Start services.  In 2011 the ECEI was designated as an OU University Strategic Organization for its research initiative focused on infants and toddlers in group care settings.
