The Cal Youth Camps oer sports, recreation and leadership opportunities to hundreds of children, ages 5 - 16. Our programs, administered and taught by enthusiastic, caring and well trained sta, oer a wide range of sports and recreation activities designed to provide kids with opportunities to learn, make friends, build condence, and have fun. These are temporary (May 29 - August 21, 2020) summer camp positions.
I. PROGRAM INSTRUCTION
- Teach age-appropriate skills and activities in a progressive sequence and assist when in the assistant role.
- Prepare and submit a specic lesson plan or activity for each activity session; plan progressive lessons with any co-counselors based on campers' ages and skill levels.
- Run organized and well-executed classes where there is maximum opportunity for participation in diverse activities that are creative and engaging.
- Actively participate and engage with all campers.
- Connect the camp values and life skills to the activities in a developmentally appropriate manner.
- Promote theme days or group traditions to help campers feel united as a group.
- Help all campers make friends and enjoy the camp experience.
- Assist with parent orientations and check-in and check-out procedures.
- Promote theme days or group traditions to help campers and sta feel united as a group and add enjoyment to the camp.
- Look for ways to make camp better and share those in your weekly team leader meetings.
- Ensure campers have safe and appropriate equipment, facilities, and supplies.
- Keep equipment, binder, and supplies in order, well maintained, and in the proper location.
- Complete and submit paperwork accurately (timesheets, lesson plans, certications, etc.).
- Accept feedback and makes necessary corrections.
- Conduct daily check of activity area for safety and cleanliness; make needed improvements or report needs to a supervisor or team leader.
- Assist with, lead, and/or participate in all special events, sta meetings, and programs designated by your supervisor or team leader.
III. SUPERVISION / MANAGEMENT
- Provide general supervision, risk management, and downtime activities.
- Develop age appropriate relationships with campers and identify and meet individual campers' needs.
- Help campers leave their comfort zones and take healthy risks while improving knowledge and skill.
- Account for all campers, take attendance regularly and follow check-in/out procedures.
- Walk children safely between locations and supervise on water/bathroom breaks.
- Assist campers with belongings, lost and found, sunscreen/water, trash pick-up, etc.
- Assist and guide campers in resolving their own problems and step-in only when necessary.
- Supervise and coach junior sta working in your area, providing direction and feedback if necessary.
- Motivate campers and junior sta to enthusiastically participate in all activities.
- Provide summer camp instruction to children (ages 5 - 16) in one or more of the following areas: sailing, windsurng, kayaking, paddleboarding, rock climbing, generation recreation, science & outdoor education.
- Maintains a supportive environment for program participants and facilitate involvement.
- Experience working with or leading a group of children between the ages of 5 - 16.
- Sensory abilities (hearing, seeing, communicating, physical movement, etc) necessary to perform the duties of the position.
- Experience teaching activities to children.
- Experience supervising children's programs. Experience supervising sta. Available for a signicant length of the program (May 29 - August 21, 2020) and for sta trainings (evenings and weekends between May 28 - June 6th).
- Current certications in American Red Cross (or equivalent) First Aid, CPR (child & adult), and AED (child & adult).
Salary & Benefits
