Position Category: Faculty - Tenure Track (FT)


Utah Valley University invites applications for a Faculty, Tenure Track position for Teacher Education, Secondary Education/Educational Leadership under the direction of the Dean of the School of Education and the Chair of the Department of Secondary Education.

This position teaches undergraduate and graduate courses in Secondary Education and Educational Leadership as well as other related courses. In addition to expertise in educational leadership, we seek a teacher-researcher with expertise in innovative curricula, pedagogy, learning contexts, and assessment across secondary disciplines. The position requires knowledge of how learning environments and/or pedagogical practices can frame, change, or disrupt existing learning systems to create equitable and productive learning opportunities. Experience/education in classroom assessment required. Experience with teacher performance assessment (e.g., edTPA or National Board Certification) and/or Educational Leadership preferred. Performs clinical supervision of students in fieldwork and student teaching. Serves the college and community. Produces scholarly work and follows professional and ethical standards.

Required Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline. ABD accepted. Knowledge and skill in current instructional theories, strategies, techniques, and discipline content. Evidence of potential for scholarly/creative work consistent with a teaching university. See preferred qualifications for discipline or program-specific minimum qualifications.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and experience in teaching courses in secondary education, educational leadership and related fields.
  • Knowledge of current instructional theory, methods, strategies, and techniques.
  • Knowledge of student management, motivation, and evaluation techniques.
  • Knowledge of teacher performance assessment (e.g., edTPA or National Board Certification).
  • Skill in interpersonal relationships, problem-solving, and decision-making.
  • Skill in research, quantitative reasoning, writing, which results in scholarly work.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to a diverse group.
  • Ability to apply technology in classroom teaching.
  • Ability to implement and teach lower and upper division, as well as graduate, students a wide variety of evidence-based curriculum, assessments, and interventions.
  • Ability to commit to evening courses on occasion.
  • Ability to adapt to current trends in the field.

Preferred Qualifications:

In addition to minimum qualifications, prefer three years of successful PK-12 Secondary Education teaching and experience as a K-12 school leader. Experience with embedded educator preparation programs and collaboration with public education partners. Knowledge and understanding of national standards and research in teacher and school leader education. Demonstrated experience and commitment to university and public school partnerships. Commitment to global competency as it relates to educator preparation.
Graduation from an accredited institution with terminal, earned degree appropriate to discipline (e.g., Secondary Education and Education Leadership or equivalent). PhD must be in hand by the start of classes.

Physical Requirements:

Requirements associated with teaching, frequent standing, walking, talking, and sitting. Frequent hand manipulation typical of the use of a computer keyboard.
