Principal Duties and Responsibilities
Teach undergraduate, graduate, and specialist courses for preservice and in-service teachers in the Learning Disabilities program area in addition to general special education courses, including some in field-based settings.
Establish, develop, and maintain an active research agenda and related disseminations in the form of scholarly publications, grant proposals, and/or conference presentations, including the mentoring of graduate and undergraduate student research projects.
Assist with the design of courses for the Learning Disabilities undergraduate and graduate programs in the areas of reading, written expression, and mathematics.
Maintain an active service record at the department, college, and university levels, in addition to establishing partnerships with local K-12 schools.
Perform related Departmental duties as required.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between EMU and the EMU Chapter of the American Association of University Professors, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
Earned doctorate in Learning Disabilities, Special Education, or related field with a special education cognate concentration completed by date of appointment from an accredited institution.
ABD status at time of application requires a letter of confirmation from the applicant’s dissertation chairperson.
Coursework concentration and/or dissertation topic related to students with Specific Learning Disabilities.
Specific expertise regarding the eligibility process, continuum of interventions, delivery models, and progress monitoring for students with Specific Learning Disabilities in one or more of the following domains:
Reading (dyslexia included);
Oral expression, listening comprehension, and written expression; and/or
An active research/scholarly agenda and accomplishments related to the appointment.
PK-12 school experience, special education/students with Specific Learning Disabilities included.
Previous higher education teaching experience preferred.
Able to teach undergraduate and graduate (through specialist level) courses for preservice and in-service teachers about students with Specific Learning Disabilities (K-12).
Able to teach undergraduate and graduate courses about general special education/ inclusion topics for preservice and in-service teachers.
Experience and an expressed interest in mixed methods research.
Experience acquiring or pursuing external funding
The successful candidate will serve an eight-month, tenure track appointment with summer employment contingent on student demand and funding. A competitive salary will be based on qualifications and prior experience with a tenure track appointment at the assistant professor rank. Starting date should be no later than August 30, 2021.
