Job Description

Director, Teaching and Learning Center (TLC)
Working under the supervision of the Vice Provost for Academic Innovation and Faculty Affairs, the Director will provide the leadership and strategic direction for the Center in the development and implementation of comprehensive, coordinated programs, systems, and support for educational research, pedagogy innovation, instructional design, training for faculty, and educational outreach programs. The TLC is a newly created office and the director will have the opportunity to design the roadmap for this at Stevens. The Director will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administrators to ensure that the TLC supports faculty needs in teaching and learning. The Director will oversee the operation of the Center and supervise its staff in activities related to Stevens’ educational research, instructional design, pedagogy development, faculty training, and educational outreach programs.

Areas of Responsibility

  • Working closely with stakeholders and getting their partnership and buy-in, especially with the faculty, the academic leadership in the schools, IT, etc.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders and advisory teams to establish and implement a comprehensive, multi-year plan for the TLC.
  • Design, conduct and analyze an annual faculty needs assessment related to teaching and learning.
  • Oversee the design, development, and delivery of programs, services, and resources that promote the development of all faculty, regardless of rank or status, as effective teachers.
  • Ensure high-quality qualitative and quantitative assessment and evaluation of all TLC programs and initiatives including reporting results, and, when necessary, revising approach.
  • Oversee the daily operational, financial, and managerial activities of the TLC, which may include supervision of professional and graduate student staff and collaboration with support staff from other offices.
  • Explores and actively pursue public and private funding opportunities for educational research.
  • Promotes the TLC within the Stevens communities.
  • Produce an annual report of the Office’s accomplishments and goals.
  • Serve on appropriate university committees.
  • Pursue and establish educational outreach programs with high schools to recruit more students from underserved communities to attend Stevens.
  • Assists the schools/colleges with accreditation-related activities.

Required Qualifications
Candidates must possess the following qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in education is preferred
  • Minimum of ten-year experience and strong track record in educational research and/or instructional design
  • Minimum of five-year experience in a management role
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact confidently with faculty, staff, and administrators
  • Experience with program development, management, and assessment
  • Proven ability to produce error-free promotional materials, including email announcements and flyers
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher
  • Experience using Microsoft Forms, Google Forms, and/or Survey Monkey
  • Ability to learn how to use additional software, systems, and programs as needed
