The College of Education, Health and Human Sciences at The University of Tennessee is seeking a clinical assistant professor to coordinate the UTK’s University Assisted Community Schools, to serve as a liaison with the Office of Professional Licensure and to teach and supervise applied education coursework.
The College of Education, Health, and Human Sciences is a multidisciplinary unit with over 150 tenured/tenure-track faculty members, housed in eight departments. TPTE, the College’s largest department, offers programs of study that lead to initial teacher licensure in many content fields as well as undergraduate programs in educational interpreting and audiology/speech pathology, a graduate level urban specialist certificate, programs leading to several teaching endorsements, masters and educational specialist degrees, and doctoral degrees. The University of Tennessee College of Education Health and Human Sciences Office of Professional Licensure (OPL) promotes a healthy, educated, and civil society; to encourage life-long learning; and to enhance the quality of life within the diverse, global community by preparing professionals to educate and lead for the changing landscape of 21st-century schools and classrooms. The Office of Professional Licensure oversees the quality and accountability systems of over 30 educator licensure programs and partners with 80 school districts across Tennessee and the nation.
Responsibilities include 1) oversee and manage University-assisted Community Schools (facilitate and promote a shared vision among partners, e.g., community K-12 schools, community agencies; provide to K-12 students, their families, and members of the community with services such as high quality instruction, expanded learning opportunities, and such health, dental, mental health, and social services, as may be determined to be the expressed needs of each school by school leadership and site coordinator in communication with parent organizations; 2) serve as liaison between UT’s OPL, TPTE faculty and students and school partners (work with programs, candidates, LEA partners, and school leaders to establish high-quality clinical placements for teacher candidates); 3) teach and oversee graduate assistants in teaching and supervision of introductory education courses with applied field experiences; and 4) participate in scholarship and professional development activities in relation to items 1) – 3) above.
Required Qualifications: Applicants for the position must have a terminal degree in an area of K-12 education or related field and a minimum of three years’ teaching or other K-12 experience. Demonstration of knowledge/proficiency of Microsoft Office suite, Google Suite, or other learning management systems; strong interpersonal, verbal and written communications skills; ability to collaborate, multi-task and effectively manage a staff; and commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion are required.
Desired Qualifications: Applicants who demonstrate evidence of successful work with teaching and advising teacher education students; college teaching; participation in
curriculum development and evaluation; knowledge of university or accreditation policies, procedures, and curricular information; proficiency to relate effectively to K-12 partners, students, faculty, support staff, alumni, and parents in an academic advising capacity.
This 12-month non-tenure track appointment is competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. There is possibility of promotion in rank after five successful years at starting rank.
