The School of Education at the University of Massachusetts Lowell invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in its graduate Leadership programs. In keeping with our mission to advance social justice through systemic change, we seek candidates whose research, teaching, and service address inequality in education. Qualified candidates should have a record of or a strong agenda for publication and grant funding. While research focus is flexible, we are particularly interested in inclusive, anti-racist, justice-centered perspectives related to teaching and learning, organizational improvement, evidence-use, and educational policy.
The School of Education currently serves 400 graduate students and 120 undergraduates. It has 14 tenured or tenure track faculty and five clinical faculty. The School has a number of exciting initiatives designed to meet the needs of a rapidly expanding student body: a Carnegie-recognized doctoral degree program for school leaders, research-practice partnerships with local school districts, Ph.D. degrees, a U.S. Department of State grant-funded international education program, a new B.A.Ed. degree with dual license in elementary and special education, a UTeach program for undergraduate STEM education, and a Center for Program Evaluation.
The College of Fine Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (FAHSS) is the largest academic unit of the University, with 12 academic departments and over 230 full-time faculty. FAHSS has experienced significant growth in recent years, including hiring over 70 new faculty members, achieving a 70% growth in funded research expenditures, and adding several new interdisciplinary graduate programs.
This hire will be part of the University of Massachusetts Lowell hire of six tenure-track faculty members (various ranks) as part of our 2022-2023 Social & Health Policy cluster hiring initiative. Minimum Qualifications (Required):
- Ph.D. or research-based Ed.D. in educational leadership or closely related field
- A record of (or emerging agenda for) research on the factors that contribute to educational inequalities or the policies and practices designed to redress those inequalities
- Commitment to service at the department, university, and community levels
- Ability to work collaboratively within diverse groups on complex problems
- Established record of interdisciplinary research
- Experience teaching online
- Experience mentoring/advising doctoral students
- Experience working with practitioners at the school, district, state, or federal level, and other stakeholders (i.e., families, community members, and community-based organizations)
- Experience with grant funding from government agencies and/or foundations
- Experience teaching or conducting research in one or more of the following areas: equity leadership, improvement science and research utilization, organizational learning, community colleges and college access, educational policy and reform, special education
