Reporting to and working closely with the Dean, the Associate Dean, Academic provides strategic leadership to the School to achieve goals as outlined in NAIT’s strategic plan in alignment with NAIT’s Vision, Promises and Values. The Associate Dean, Academic is a strong advocate for the School and assists the Dean in the development, enhancement and nurturance of collaborative partnerships internally and with external stakeholders. As a senior member of the School’s leadership team, this position is accountable to implement the school’s academic plans and strategies.
The Associate Dean Academic is a champion for academic excellence, continuous quality improvement, and works with NAIT academic departments to ensure excellence in program delivery. Department Heads will report to this position.
Provides exemplary leadership to academic programs within the School to achieve academic excellence, through participation as a member of senior management in the overall leadership of the School
Attracts and recruits key academic and instructional positions and ensures staff are performing at a high level and dedicated to NAIT’s Vision, Promises and Values
Directs and implements academic plans and strategies for all programs within the School
Initiates, promotes and supports partnerships with departments across NAIT and externally to foster academic excellence
Leads the School in all aspects of academic policies and regulations including mentoring, disciplining and counselling students on issues which have been escalated by the Chair
Champions the best possible student experience through establishing best practices as they relate to student success
Leads faculty in the research and development of new academic programming
Ensures that programs offered within the School are relevant and of high quality; directs the quality curriculum process both internal and external to the department including external accreditation processes
Provides direction to ensure that high educational standards are maintained and that relevant courses meet the needs of students and employers
Supports Recognition of Prior Learning processes and directs and participates in the development of articulation agreements
Serves as a senior advisor to the Dean on all academic matters
Represents the School to external academic, business and government organizations by participating in local, provincial and national academic, business and government committees and organizations related to the furtherance of the School’s educational mission
Related post-secondary education or industry designation required
Several years of senior management and administrative experience in a post-secondary education setting a strong asset
NOTE: This is a five-year term appointment, where upon establishing mutual agreement, the assignment may be continued for an additional 5 years.
Remuneration: Salary will be commensurate with education and experience and will include a comprehensive benefit package.
