The Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Kansas seeks a tenure-track Assistant Professor faculty member for the Research, Evaluation, Measurement, and Statistics (REMS) track of the Educational Psychology and Research program. Research and teaching priorities will include the epistemological bases of educational research methods, academic achievement gap analysis, and the application of machine learning and/or natural language processing to educational measurement. The position is a nine-month appointment beginning August 18, 2021. The REMS track of the Educational Psychology and Research program offers doctoral (Ph.D.) and Master’s (M.S.E.) degree training. Teaching load is two courses per semester. A high research productivity, including peer-reviewed publications and successful grant applications leading to external funding, is expected. The successful applicant is expected to integrate individual and cultural diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging into teaching, research, and service.

Teaching – (.40 FTE)
The successful applicants will teach a mix of introductory, intermediate, and advanced courses in research methods, statistics, and measurement. A teaching load of two courses per semester is normally expected. Duties and responsibilities include:
Teach courses in REMS track of the Educational Psychology and Research Program.
Advise and mentor graduate degree-seeking students.
Direct M.S.E. and Ph.D. research projects, theses and dissertations.
Serve on doctoral comprehensive examination committees, doctoral dissertation committees, and master’s thesis committees.
Serve as an advisor for research methodology on doctoral comprehensive examination committees and doctoral dissertation committees for students throughout the School of Education & Human Sciences and the university.
Direct an ongoing program of research in educational measurement methodology that includes application of machine learning and/or natural language processing. Duties and responsibilities include:
Regularly publish research in refereed journals or other scholarly outlets in the areas of research, evaluation, measurement, or statistics.
Present research at scholarly national or international conferences.
Seek external funding to support research agenda and fund advisees as graduate research assistants.
Serves as a mentor to students to develop their research skills and scholarly production.
Provide serve to the Educational Psychology Program, Department of Educational Psychology, School of Education, University of Kansas community, and the field of Research, Evaluation, Measurement, or Statistics.
Serve on committees within the Educational Psychology and Research, Department of Educational Psychology, School of Education, and University of Kansas.
Represent the Research, Evaluation, Measurement, and Statistics track to university and national groups.
Collegiality: The Department of Educational Psychology values collegiality. All faculty members are expected to act in a manner that promotes collegial relationships and shows respect toward students, staff, and colleagues.
A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in educational or psychological measurement, research methodology, quantitative psychology, statistics, or a closely related field.
Evidence of potential for engaging in high-quality research related to epistemological bases for research methodology, achievement gaps, and factors impacting academic achievement.
Evidence of potential for engaging in high-quality teaching.
