The Department of Music at Adams State University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track appointment in Music Education and Applied Woodwinds at the rank of Assistant Professor. The person appointed to this position will oversee and instruct courses in the elementary and secondary music education curriculum, supervise student teachers, serve as a liaison with the Department of Teacher Education, maintain relationships with regional K-12 music educators, and teach applied lessons and performance courses in their area. Opportunities for online teaching in the Master of Arts in Music Education program will be available. Other teaching areas may be assigned dependent upon the qualifications of the candidate and department needs. Effective teaching, scholarly productivity/creative activity, and service to the University are required for retention, promotion, and tenure. This is an academic year appointment with a course load of 12 credits per semester.


  • Terminal degree in music, with minimum of Master’s degree in Music Education. ABD considered.
  • Minimum three years of public-school teaching experience.
  • Candidates should be well versed in current music education methodologies and practices.
  • Ability to teach in an applied woodwind instrumental area.
  • Ability and willingness to successfully recruit for the department and to work with high school students and directors.

  • Adams State University is committed to the development of online courses and programs. The online division of the university is Adams State Online. The university has a comprehensive Academic Instructional Technology Center committed to the support of faculty teaching online. Support includes training in the process of teaching online, Instructional designers to support the development and designing of online courses and instructional tools to support video lectures, live classrooms and cloud-based storage for instructional training videos. Successful candidate for this position will be committed to the willingness to develop and teach online courses.

Salary is $45,500 to $47,000 for the first year (12-month, full-time contract) with 3% cost of living adjustments anticipated for future years; excellent medical/dental and retirement benefits.
