    The Daniel L. Goodwin college of Education has transformed the teaching landscape of Chicago, with roots tracing back to the city’s first teacher education institution. The Goodwin College offers more than 40 undergraduate and graduate programs in School and Family Counseling, Inner City Studies, Secondary, Physical, Health, Literacy, Elementary, Early Childhood, Gifted, and Special Education, Teacher Leaders, Educational Leadership; and Human Resource Development. The College maintains excellence in all educational standards and is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Education Preparation (CAEP), premier accrediting body approved by the U.S. Department of Education - as well as by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs and the Council on Rehabilitation Education.     Department Background:
    The Teacher Education Department (TED) offers B.A. and M.A. programs to prepare teachers in Early Childhood, Elementary, Middle Grades and Bilingual Education. The department also offers a Master of Science in Teaching & Inquiry (MSTI) program for licensed K-8 teachers. Through the College’s Quality Assurance System, the department’s faculty use data and inquiry to improve learning outcomes for students. Faculty members are also committed to racial equity and diversity in teaching, research and service. All of the department’s programs are approved by the Illinois State Board of Education.

    • Teach online, hybrid and face-to-face courses in the Early Childhood Education graduate and undergraduate programs as assigned
    • Supervise clinical and student teachers
    • Contribute to the Early Childhood Education program development
    • Work collaboratively with colleagues in assessing and evaluating the program for continued improvement
    • Provide academic advising and mentorship to students
    • Conduct on-going scholarly activity in the area of expertise and disseminate findings
    • Participate in program and departmental initiatives and activities
    • Participate in College, University and professional community activities

    Required Qualifications:
    • An earned doctorate in the field of Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field with an emphasis on young children from a regionally or nationally accredited institution (ABD with completion by 9/1/2021 will be considered)
    • Evidence or a demonstrated potential for teaching across core graduate and undergraduate early childhood courses, including but not limited to child development, curriculum and instruction, assessment, Language Development, Music and STEAM courses
    • Ability and experience in the development and teaching of online and hybrid courses
    • Demonstrated commitment to professional growth, collaboration with program faculty, collegiality and flexibility to meet program and students' needs
    • Demonstrated experience in working collaboratively and effectively with racially, ethnically, culturally, and linguistically diverse faculty and students
    • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, culturally-responsive pedagogical techniques and effective practices for engaging historically underserved and underrepresented populations
    • Experience with multiple technologies in support of teaching and learning (especially for young children)
    • Demonstrated commitment to high quality, socially-just, equitable and inclusive teaching practices.

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • At least three years classroom teaching experience (early childhood/primary)
    • Professional educator licensure or eligibility for licensure in the state of Illinois
    • Experience in program development
    • Evidence of successful teaching in higher education
    • Evidence of, or demonstrated potential for scholarly and creative activity, a focused research agenda for advancing knowledge in the field of early childhood education
    • Evidence of professional service and/or community engagement activities related to early childhood education
    • Demonstrated knowledge of how historical patterns of exclusion of minority students shape student participation and outcomes
    • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively and collaboratively within a multicultural environment and work harmoniously with program colleagues, students, and the community.
