  • Senior Learning Designer
    Curriculum, Assessment and Teaching Transformation
    University at Buffalo, The State University of New York

    The University at Buffalo (UB) Office of Curriculum, Assessment & Teaching Transformation (CATT) seeks to hire a Senior Learning Designer. The Designer works within the Teaching Transformation Team on strategic initiatives to translate an instructor’s course vision and objectives into course sites within the learning management system (LMS). The Designer ensures that sites are consistent with university standards for course navigation, structure, and content. This position reports to the Associate Director of Teaching Transformation.


    Key accountabilities and responsibilities


    • Provide Direct Pedagogical Support for Faculty and Instructional Staff, as Well as Training Delivery.

    • Serve as a Course Design Expert in UBs LMS.

    • Develop Content for and Lead Workshops or other Analogous Offerings for faculty development.

    • Collaborate with Learning Designers and Other CATT Staff on Strategic Initiatives to Implement an Instructor’s Vision within the LMS.

    • Serve as back-up user support for the LMS.

    • Develop and deliver the content of various Teaching Transformation Team offerings, including the New Faculty Academy, New Teaching Assistant Conference, and Teaching and Learning Colloquium (formerly Faculty Academies) professional development series for university instructors.

    • Collaborate with the UB Learns support team to stay abreast of all developments and upgrades within the LMS and may be called upon to provide direct user support as needed.

    • Lead or assist with direct instructional design support and delivery of professional development courses and workshops as needed.

    • Serve as a liaison to various academic and professional units on campus to provide direct or referred support for instruction-based questions or problems.


     


    Minimum Qualifications


    Bachelor’s degree and at least two (2) years of experience in instructional design or direct support for a learning management system.


    Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.


    Additional experience and competencies in the following areas is also required:


    • Strong organizational skills.

    • Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.

    • Experience working in a college or university setting with significant experience related to instructional design, course building, or support of a learning management system.

    • Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with ability to communicate clearly and respectfully with diverse populations.

    • Strong computer skills essential. Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, and Outlook and Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar, and Drive. Familiarity with common learning management systems, such as Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, or D2L.


     


    Preferred Qualifications



    • A master’s degree with three (3) or more years of experience in higher education, ideally at a Research 1 institution, in the areas of instruction design, direct instructional support, or user support for a learning management system.

    • Demonstrated expertise with course building in one of the common learning management systems, such as Blackboard, Canvas, Moodle, or D2L, is highly desirable.

    • University-level teaching experience, with at least 3 – 5 years in a post-secondary classroom setting.

    • Experience with Brightspace (Learning Management System).
