    Position Details

    The Department of Education in the College of Social Sciences, Mathematics and Education at The University of Tampa invites applications for a tenure-track position in Education at the rank of Assistant Professor starting in August 2024.

    The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially based private institution of 10,566 undergraduate and graduate students. The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area.     Responsibilities for this position include teaching courses in the Instructional Design & Technology graduate program (during the day and in the evening); developing a research agenda related to the field and disseminating results in publications and presentations; advising graduate students; supervising interns in the Instructional Design & Technology program; addressing program needs in the department related to instructional design and educational technology; and building collaborative relationships with colleagues in other disciplines both across campus and within the college to broaden the scope of the program in recruiting students.

    While the teaching responsibilities of this position are primarily at the graduate level, there are opportunities at the undergraduate level as well.

    Candidates are expected to show a commitment to excellence in teaching, engaging students in learning beyond the classroom, and have demonstrated scholarship in their area of expertise. Other responsibilities include student advising and service to the department, college, and University.

    Qualifications
    Applicants must have a terminal degree in instructional design, instructional technology, instructional systems, or a terminal degree in a related discipline reflected by coursework and scholarship.

    ABD applicants will be considered if their degree is complete by August 2024. The ideal candidate should have teaching experience in face-to-face, hybrid, and online modes at the college level and be able to design, develop, and teach graduate and undergraduate-level courses. Familiarity and/or experience with K-12 education preferred.

    Required Qualifications and Skills
    doctorate in instructional design, instructional technology, or related fields
    collaborative educator
    experience working with and mentoring students
    excellent organizational and communication skills
    demonstrated scholarship and professional involvement
    competency in learning and instructional design theories related to instructional design
    record of working with diverse populations
    the strong promise of efficacy in the college learning environment; in particular, demonstrated the ability to teach a full range of courses currently being offered in the IDT program

    Preferred Qualifications and Skills
    K-12 experience
    experience in competency-based program design (IBSTPI, AECT)
    supervisory experience of interns in IDT environments
    experience with Quality Matters, Learning Management Systems, software used in the field, and technologies associated with immersive, augmented environments
    demonstrated experience in working with new technologies
    demonstrated experience in the Implementation of current educational technologies and teaching practices
    demonstrated professional dispositions, including flexibility, adaptability, embracing equity, responsiveness, reflective teaching practices, and strong work ethic
